Arts in Education Program

The RAA Arts in Education Program brings professional artists into the area schools
to integrate the arts into the existing school curricula. The RAA arts-in-education
program has been cited in the past as a model for this type of program by the Indiana
Arts Association and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Visiting Artist Program

The Visiting Artist Program exposes school children to a wide variety of arts disciplines
by resident artists and visiting groups of artists. Musicians, writers, choreographers
and various artists visit the schools and work with the students and teachers within
the existing curricula. This year we had over 2,600 students who participated in the
program from six area schools: Batesville Primary, Intermediate, Middle and High Schools,
Oldenburg Academy, and St. Louis School. Each school who subscribes to the program
receives between $2000 and $6500 worth of programming based on the enrollment of students
in the schools. The total expense to RAA is $26,000.

Young Artists Showcase

The Young Artist Showcase is a program that recognizes students in 7th through 12th
grade who excel in the areas of art, music, writing, dance and drama. Professional
judges are enlisted to judge the entries in each discipline, and trophies and ribbons
are awarded to the winners at each school's end of the year awards program along with
the sports and academic awards that are traditionally given by the schools. This
program fills a gap in local awards programs, showing students that they can be rewarded
for excellence in the arts and creates an incentive for students to achieve excellence.
RAA Arts in Education Evening Series

This program utilizes some of the wonderful artists in residence and visiting artists
that we sponsor in the schools during the day by providing workshops or performances for
parents and community members in the evening. Last year we sponsored two programs:
- Popular Indianapolis potter Don Edwards provided three potting workshops for community members.
- Global Rhythms World Music and BMS African Drummers.
