Who We Are

The Rural Alliance for the Arts (RAA) is a not-for profit organization founded in
December 1988 to promote the arts by providing opportunities for artistic education,
expression and enjoyment in Batesville and the surrounding area.
The organization
has a volunteer 20 member Board of directors, a 10 member Executive Committee drawn
from the Board, and an Administrator. In addition, there are many volunteer and business
organizations in the community that give generously of their time and talent to help
make the RAA succeed.
RAA 2006-2007 Executive Board of Directors:
- Regina Siefert - President
- Mary K. Cambron - Vice President
- Elaine Howell - Secretary
- Susan Russell - Treasurer
- Joan Kuhlman - Administrator
What We Do

The RAA began by supporting arts in education in the schools. Its Artist in Residence
Program, the Visiting Artist Series, and the Young Artist Showcase are present in all
six area Batesville schools.
The RAA presents approximately five public events each year including local productions.
A sampling of past events include: The Vienna Boys Choir, The Toledo Ballet (Nutcracker),
Peter Pan, Wizard of Oz, Prairie Fire Children's Theatre, Trinity Irish Dancers, Fiddler
on the Roof, Boars Head Yule Log Festival, Martha Graham Dancers and A Christmas Carol.
In cooperation with the Batesville Chamber of Commerce and the Mayor's Committee for the
Performing Arts, the RAA sponsors an annual Local Visual Art Show and contest. This is
part of the Batesville Music and Arts Festival which allows local artists to display
their work in the community.

How We Are Funded

The RAA receives funding through grants, memberships, tickets sales and its annual
Arts... Etc. Auction. The art auction, RAA's major public fundraiser, is held the
first Saturday in February.
The RAA is grateful for funding support from:
- Indiana Arts Commission
- Columbus Area Arts Council
- John A. Hillenbrand Foundation
- Ripley County Community Foundation
- Rising Sun Regional Foundation
- Hillenbrand Industries
- Local Businesses and Patrons
A Look at RAA Expenses

Every wonder all the money in RAA's $112,000 budget goes? The pie chart on the right
reflects spending in the past year. A quick look at the figures shows that RAA brings
art programming to the area by spending over 50% of its funds on programming and
bringing artists to area schools.
Note: The building of a storage building for sets and costumes is a one time expense,
which won't be reflected in future budgets. The building was generously funded by
the Rising Sun Regional Foundation.
